Investment Book of Record (IBOR)

The investment book that explains itself. Positions built from events, with every impact tracked from estimate to settlement, every change explained, and any past state reproducible on demand.

The Industry Challenge

The questions asked of investment operations are getting harder. More asset classes, more jurisdictions, more regulatory regimes, and shorter windows to answer in. Teams are asked to explain a position intraday, restate a prior period accurately, and support private and public markets in the same view.

How FINBOURNE helps

Buy it for how you run today. Keep it for how you run later. FINBOURNE’s IBOR takes your data as it comes, whether that is a daily position file from your custodian or a live trade feed from your OMS. Your existing processes keep working from day one. When you later need intraday visibility, a new asset class, or a private markets book alongside your listed holdings, that is a configuration change on the platform you are already running, not a new project.

Positions built from events

Tax-lot enabled view of current and projected holdings across cash and securities. Lifecycle events, valuations, analytics and performance all constructed from the underlying events.

Movements engine: every change, explained

FINBOURNE's movements engine tracks every change to a position, decomposing it into its constituent parts. You can see exactly why a position changed: was it a trade, a corporate action, a revaluation, or a fee? Every number on the screen can be taken apart.

Every impact, tracked through every state

A position impact does not arrive finished. It moves from estimated, to committed, to contractual, to physical. IBOR tracks each impact at every stage, so a projected position shows what is expected, what has been agreed and what has actually settled as separate, queryable data points.

Bitemporal by design

Replay your portfolio on any past date with the information available at that point in time, and again with everything known since. Correct historical data without losing the original record. Meet regulatory requirements for audit trail and data lineage without manual reconstruction.

Client stories

Asset servicers

Global fund administrator, unified IBOR across regions

A multi-trillion dollar global fund administrator was running two separate fund accounting platforms across Europe/MENA and Asia. IBOR was deployed as part of the unified platform, providing position monitoring and reconciliation across all client funds and jurisdictions. The consolidated investment book of record replaced fragmented regional systems, eliminating inconsistent operating models and reducing vendor development cycles that had previously exceeded a year for each regulatory change.

Asset owners

Tier 1 pension fund, whole-of-fund IBOR across public and private assets

One of Australia’s largest superannuation funds needed cross-asset data management to support global investment operations. Legacy technology lacked efficient intraday capabilities and ran separate systems for public and private market data. FINBOURNE’s IBOR and EDM+ delivered a front-to-back investment book of record with advanced customisation and automation, enabling near real-time visibility across the entire portfolio.

Asset managers

Cloud-native IBOR replacing an in-house build

A large global asset manager built its IBOR in-house, but as the firm diversified across equity, fixed income, and multi-asset portfolios, maintaining a bespoke system became increasingly complex and costly. FINBOURNE’s IBOR now provides live positions, valuations, and exposure data across all asset classes, a single source for reporting services that enabled the firm’s broader cloud transformation.

Hedge funds

Multi-strategy credit fund, IBOR across 100+ instrument types

A multi-strategy credit hedge fund needed a single platform covering the full trade lifecycle across equities, fixed income, CDS, interest rate swaps, swaptions, FX, and listed futures/options. FINBOURNE’s IBOR provides on-demand positions with automated T+0/T+1 reconciliation against fund administrators. The platform scales with AUM growth, core strategies from launch, with the architecture supporting additional OTC instruments as strategies scale.

Private credit

IBOR for complex loan instruments

A private credit fund administrator needed an IBOR capable of live position monitoring and lifecycle management for complex credit instruments: term loans, revolving credit facilities, CLOs, and ABS/MBS. FINBOURNE’s IBOR provides native lifecycle event modelling for drawdowns, repayments, PIK, fee events, and amendments, with configurable movements tracking every change to borrower positions.

Private equity

Unified positions across real estate, credit, and PE

A global alternatives leader managing a complex mix of real estate, credit, and private equity assets implemented FINBOURNE’s IBOR to unify position data and simplify reporting across all asset classes. The unified IBOR now provides a single view of positions and cashflows, enabling accurate and timely reporting to investors and regulators across the full portfolio.

Questions we hear from investment operations teams

How do I trace what drove a position change back to the underlying event in one place?

The movements engine decomposes every position change into its constituent parts: trades, corporate actions, revaluations, fees, and settlements. Every number on the screen can be taken apart and traced to the event that produced it.

What does an intraday position view look like that includes trades, corporate actions, and settlements?

Each event impacts the position as it occurs, tracked through every state from estimated to physical settlement. The position view updates continuously and shows projected, committed, and settled impacts separately.

How do I restate a historical position without losing the record of what was originally reported?

Every data point carries two timestamps: when it applied and when it was recorded. A correction updates what is known now without overwriting what was reported at the time, so both versions are queryable.

How are firms giving the front office a projected view and the back office a settled view from the same data?

By defining different position views on the same underlying events. One view shows estimated and committed impacts for the front office; another shows only physically settled positions for the back office. Both are derived, not copied.

What does it take to connect an IBOR to fund accounting without a reconciliation layer in between?

IBOR and ABOR derive from the same event store, with different valuation and timing rules applied on top. There is no separate load, no separate ledger, and nothing to reconcile between them.
